Prof. Layton here! Today we will review the adorable D-Style Blade Liger, the latest kit finished by Erlangshen.

Blade Liger is a ZOID from the game and Anime and Manga of ZOIDS. For those of you who didn;t know, ZOIDS itself is originally a toy product line from TOMY. Its mechanical dinosaur and ancient animal theme toys was very popular in both Japan and US in the ’80s.

Blade Liger is actually and evolve Shield Liger. Like Pokemon, ZOIDS can evolved. Like Digimon, ZOIDS can be “piloted” by humans they have bond with.

Over-all Look

Oh c’mon. Look at that adorable post. It’s like looking at a mechanical kitten. Don’t you just want to pinch its cheek?
Of course, if you really think about it, I am not sure if this deserves to be called a Super Deformed kit. It is smaller than the usual ZOIDS plamo, but doesn’t seem to adhere to any other SD proportions besides that fact. You can also see the comparison with other D-Style plamo and a ZOIDS one-blox figure.

Painting

As Erlangshen might have mentioned in his WIP, there are no pre-painted parts for this D-Style kit. Maybe Kotobukiya decided it was not worth it and let modelers paint it themselves. In any case, there isn’t a lot of things that needed to be painted. There some small white and gray parts that you want to paint, but it’s pretty minor.

Erlangshen also painted the teeth and claw gold. From Dalong’s review I see that the special version of the plamo actuallly comes with gold plated parts. If you don’t want or have any gold paint, you might want to hunt for this version instead.

The biggest challenge is to paint the mini Van figure. The figure is soo tiny, plus it’s made of PVC instead of ABS so it’s a bit flexible too. You must have a really stable hands and a lot of patience.

Articulations

Articulation is limited in some parts (the legs doesn’t bend in the “elbow joints”… does cats have elbow? if not, what do you call it the area where the legs bend then?). The most articulate part would be the head. You can see above just how articulate it is. There are booster cover on the back that can be lifted as well to create the illusion of going fast. The tail is only articulate in the base joint.

That still doesn’t stop from posing it in the most adorable way. :)

Gimmicks

The actual blade can be detach and rearrange to make the illusion of extending the blade/wing. I don;t have any complaint about this gimmick, although if I remember correctly, when not extended, the blade/wing should be able to rotate to the front so Blade Liger can shoot its enemy. Sadly, this articulation is not available. Maybe if you want to modify the kit, you can provide this feature.

Other than that, the other gimmick is just being too cute (Erlangshen: Cut it out already professor, you are not being professional).

Weapons & Accessories

There are no weapon or accessories for this kit.

This last image is a tribute to Erlangshen’s wife. She asked the kit to be color green (her favorite color).

Summary

I can only say 1 sentence. This plamo is too cute.

Erlangshen: waitaminit, professor. You should do a proper summary. Professor? Professor? OMG. Did you like just fainted? Don’t tell me you can’t handle this cuteness???? Professor? Professor???
